The Quick and the Breastfed

Oh, ho, ho, ho....where to start? This has been one whirlwind of a week...but I cannot imagine EVER having a more action packed, sensational, sleep-deprived, happier...more exciting week...EVER! Ryder has become the highlight of our lives, and it's so hard to imagine what life was like before he arrived!

Though this process has its difficulties, it's been such a blessing to have Raymond here 24/7 to help out with any extra duties. He makes the most frustrating moments fun, and always manages to add humor to any situation. For instance, Raymond has been trying to sing songs to the baby to keep him engaged...but never knows all the words to the songs. So he improvises. Here's last night's rendition of Five Little Piggies:

"This little piggy went to market,
this little piggy stayed home,
this little piggy had roast beef,
this little piggy...got [touched] by Michael Jackson,
and THIS little piggy went WEE WEE WEE...."

Ryder doesn't stand a chance in this world not to have a potty mouth. Sorry for your kids' vocabularies if they hang out with him. They should be quite colorful.

And...speaking of Raymond...he's quite the New Baby-Daddy Trainwreck. I think I've done well to stay cool and collected about the whole Mommy thing...although this kid is SO stankin' cute, I can't hardly stand not to have him near me at all times! But Raymond...OOOOH Raymond. Poor kid. He hasn't hardly eaten or slept in days...nor has he had a normal bowel movement. He's just a nervous wreck, worrying about whether Ryder's been burped enough, whether his head is cold, or if he's had enough to eat, whether there's really enough protein in his formula, or if the people walking their dogs in front of the house are capable of spreading germs to his precious progeny. I'm like, CHILL OUT, G!? He just can't sit still! He's actually chilled out a bit these past few hours...but during the first few days home, I thought I was going to go nuts with all the nervous energy in the air! He's just APE SHIT over his son, and it's actually the cutest and sweetest thing you've ever seen....

We had our 2 day post-partum appointment with Ryder on Friday, and all is well. He was born with a slight heart murmur, but doc says that's normal, and after listening to his heart on Friday -- he said he's gotten over it already! He's got a slight case of jaundice, but we plan to park him in front of the window today and let him get a good tan.

We've also finally gotten a good thang goin' with the whole breastfeeding situation. It was hard for little man to latch on in the beginning, because his sucking muscles weren't fully developed...and my milk hadn't come in...so we were having a bit of trouble in that arena. BUT, I woke up on Friday morning with sore tits, and by the end of the evening...they were as big and hard as basketballs. So it's official, kids, my milk has arrived...and Ryder is being successfully breastfed. It's actually quite a sight to see: a baby with a head the size of a softball, nursing from a boob the size of a snowman's crotch! Most of y'all know what I'm workin' with...but imagine my normal bust size, amplified Pamela A style. It's insane.

Well, folks, off to pick up around the house. Baby's actually down right now...so gotta get stuff done while there's time! Merry Christmas, in case I don't get a chance to say so again before the big day! Hope everyone has safe travels, and is able to enjoy time with family and those close without too much incident :) Here are some more pictures from this week!

Did Linda find that cap amongst all the Longhorn paraphernalia in the world? Lovin' it (and him)!
